Recycling can seem taunting because of the different rules between municipalities and the increasing usage of hybrid packaging. Hybrid packaging is packaging that contains layers of different materials such as paper and plastics glued together. This type of packaging can be difficult to recycle because of the process it takes to separate the different materials for recycling.
The Key to recycling is to keep it simple! When in doubt throw it out. However, while throwing it out is good to keep contamination low it should not stop you from learning what is and is not recyclable. Not everything that is recyclable is accepted in the green bin. For example, clean plastic bags or plastic packaging that passes the thumb-stretch test can be recycled at major store chains. Follow this blog series to learn what you can put in the green bin, take somewhere for special processing or simply goes with your discards.
